The Anatomy of a Zipper

Tape
The fabric part of the zipper that is sewn onto the garment. Usually made of polyester, cotton, or blended synthetic fibers.
Teeth / Chain
The continuous pieces formed on both edges of the tape that interlock with each other when the slider is pulled.
Slider
The central moving hardware that joins or separates the teeth when pulled up or down.
Puller
The attached part of the slider that you hold. Highly customizable for brand identity and logos.
Top & Bottom Stop
Metal or plastic components fixed at the ends of the teeth to prevent the slider from sliding off the chain.
Material Selection Guide
Metal Zippers
Features individual metal teeth (brass, aluminum, or nickel) clamped onto the tape. Highly durable with a premium, heavy-duty aesthetic.
Nylon / Coil Zippers
Made from continuous coiled monofilament nylon. Extremely flexible, lightweight, and capable of self-healing if a tooth is misaligned.
Resin / Plastic Zippers
Injected molded polyacetal resin teeth melted directly onto the tape. Excellent corrosion resistance and performs well in extreme weather.
Zipper Sizes Explained

| Size Specification | Approx. Teeth Width | Primary Applications |
|---|---|---|
| #3 | 4.0mm - 5.0mm | Inner garment pockets, lightweight trousers, purses, and small accessories. |
| #5 | 6.2mm - 7.0mm | The universal standard. Used for main jacket closures, backpacks, and medium bags. |
| #8 | 7.0mm - 8.0mm | Heavy-duty outerwear, large travel duffels, and camping tents. |
| #10 | 9.0mm - 10.6mm | Extreme heavy-duty usage: marine boat covers, industrial workwear, and giant luggage. |
Slider Types: Auto-lock vs Non-lock
Auto-Lock Slider
Contains a tiny locking pin mechanism inside the slider body. When you let go of the puller, the pin drops between the teeth, locking the slider securely in place.
Non-Lock Slider
Does not have an internal locking mechanism. The zipper can be pulled open simply by pulling the two sides of the tape apart. Allows for quick, easy access from any angle.
